Another Anti-Whaling/Dolphin drive hunting poster.
NOTE: This is not just pinpointing Japan, this is pinpointing all nations that do this.
NOTE NOTE: Don't be telling me 'Whales are no different than the meat on your plate' I am vegan, so this statement is invalid. I care about all animals, no matter what size, shape, species, or habitat.
The whalers are only making a living, no one protested whaling in the 18th, 19th, and eary 20th century. Whaling was hard work back then, the whalers couldn't head home until the filled the ship hold with the oil, it that would take about 4 sperm whales and about a month to do if they were lucky. Offten times they could spend up 3 years at sea to meet their quota. not only that they had to deal with storms, sickness, and ultra pissed off whales that could destroy boats and on ocassion sink the ship it's self. They needed to do it to support their familys and the industrial world needed the oil to make their machines run smothly, and people needed the oil for ilumination, as this was befor patrolium and the incendesent bulb. I know that your gonna say "I'm talking about modern whaling", but still people have to make a living to suport their families, and I feel that attacking the whaling industry today your dissing all those men who spent years at sea so that the moder world could live comfortably. Think about it.
I had nothing against old whaling. It's not the whaling itself I am against. It's the fact many whales are on the endangered species list. I don't mind whaling in the poorer countries where they need it for food. need. It's just in the rich countries like Japan and that lot, where it is no longer needed, as there is much more jobs available now. They also hide it behind scientific research (If they weren't hiding it and it was, we'd know a lot more about whales than we already do, as they would share their research.), which shows they know it's wrong. It's the same for Bluefin Tuna fishing. They continue to do it, though Bluefin are one of the most endangered animals on the planet.
Ahh, I understand, to me it just seams like a lot evriomental protection groups seem to blowthings way out of proportion. I think the IWC should limit the whaling to 4 whales or less every 3 years that way the whales repopulate and to compensate for the technology advances.
Yes, I agree, they do blow it out of proportion a little, but yes, the IWC, and other governments need to make up their minds.. all it takes is for one or two vital species to go extinct in the seas and we're doomed. Minke Whales, the main ones Japanese vessels, and most other whalers in other countries, hunt, are rather popular, but, if they continue to kill an average of 950-1000 a year, I can imagine numbers will soon drop, which is why whaling should be limited, or at least traditional methods should be brought back, and the whole whale is used, unlike today, where much of it is wasted. It's like shark finning. I wouldn't mind it as much if the whole shark was used, and less sharks were caught. Thank you for being understanding about what I said though.
I'd love to see them ban explzive Harpoon guns and Desile catcher boats. the can still have the factory ship as it keeps the sharks from eating the carcas during processing but the whalers have to go out in small motorised rafts with hand thown harpoons and lances to catch and kill the whale like in the 19th cetury, exept they used wooden longboats power by oars in th 19th century.
I believe there are a few people in an individual LEDC (Forgot where though) Who still hunt whales with hand thrown spears and long rowing boats, it's in a hot country, and they only take one whale at a time, I think. I prefer this method muchly over explosive harpoons.
They made the explosive harpoons to avoid the long nantucket slieg ride and in they greenland fisheries whales had a tenendy to dive under the ice and the whalers would be forced to cut them loose, the also developed poisen harpoons but the conseptwas droped due to the poisen geting into local fish populations and causing people to die from the fish that had injested the poisen.
its so important.
and the call is clear and direct.
perfect
i think its okay to put it in my journal?
